The Rise Of Nazi-ism

Adolf Hitler’s rise to total control of Germany didn’t happen overnight—it was a process that took several years, but if we break it down from the time he became Chancellor to when he established full dictatorial power, it took about 52 days.

Key Timeline:

  1. January 30, 1933 – Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany by President Paul von Hindenburg.
  2. February 27, 1933 – The Reichstag Fire occurs, which the Nazis use as a pretext to crack down on opposition.
  3. February 28, 1933 – The Reichstag Fire Decree is issued, suspending civil liberties and allowing mass arrests of communists and political opponents.
  4. March 5, 1933 – Nazi Party wins 43.9% of the vote in national elections, consolidating power with allies.
  5. March 23, 1933 – The Enabling Act is passed, effectively making Hitler a dictator by allowing him to rule by decree without parliamentary approval.

By March 23, 1933—just 52 days after taking office—Hitler had legally dismantled democracy and given himself absolute power.

Over the next year, he continued eliminating rivals, outlawing other parties, and solidifying his rule, but the critical moment was the Enabling Act, which removed any checks on his power.

As of today, March 4th 2025, Donald Trump has been back in the Oval Office for 43 days.
